The Outlaw Josey Wales follows the story of Josey Wales, a Missouri farmer. He was on an urge to take revenge for his wife’s murder and Young Son. Josey Wales joins a group of pro-Confederates including certain led by William T. Anderson after the death of his wife and son and takes part in attacks on Union sympathisers and army units. Along the way, he meets a diverse group of people, including an elderly Cherokee man, a young Navajo woman, and Sarah Turner, an elderly Kansas woman. Travis and Chato, two men who worked for Sarah Turner’s deceased son Tom, join the squad in Santo Rio.

Wales and his companions settle in a neglected ranch once headed by Tom. He rides off to Ten Bears’ camp, parleys, and makes peace with Ten Bears, the leader of the neighbouring Comanche tribe. Meanwhile, Captain Terrill and his men are guided to Santo Rio by a bounty hunter whose friend was killed by Wales. The Redlegs initiate a sneak attack on the ranch the next morning. Wales and his companions start firing from the armoured ranch house, killing all of Terrill’s men. Notwithstanding the being out of ammunition, a wounded Wales pursues Terrill back to Santa Rio.
