What is the Plot of the Movie?
The movie follows the story of Forrest Gump, an old man who was sitting at a bus stop and telling his story to the man sitting next to him. Forrest tells him about his life when he was young. His mother runs a boarding house, and young Forrest is fitted with leg braces. He lives along with his mother. On the first day of his school, Forrest met a girl named Jenny Curran, and they became best friends.
In school, Gump was being bullied because he can’t walk properly. One day while running away from the bullies, his braces breaks off, revealing he can run very fast. Gump received a scholarship and got admitted to the University of Alabama’s football team, coached by Bear Bryant.

After finishing college in 1967, Forrest joins in the United States Army. All through basic training, he makes friends with Benjamin Buford Blue, a fellow soldier (nicknamed “Bubba”). They are sent to Vietnam later that year, where Bubba is killed in combat. Forrest helps in saving several wounded platoonmates, which include Lieutenant Dan, who loses both legs and is awarded the Medal of Honor by President Lyndon B. Johnson for his bravery.
Forrest briefly reunites with Abbie Hoffman at the anti-war March on the Pentagon rally. They established the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company after their boat survives Hurricane Carmen. Forrest then comes back home to take care of his mother, who is dying of cancer. In 1981, Forrest reveals that he is waiting at the bus stop because he has received a letter from Jenny, who wants to meet him.
