Robert Rodriguez directed ‘We Can Be Heroes’ debuts on Netflix this Friday at Christmas. It is a sequel to ‘The Adventures Of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D’. The Sequel comes 15 years after the release of the original movie. The movie reintroduces audiences to ‘Sharkboy’ and ‘Lavagirl.’ It also introduces many new faces into the universe, and few such names include Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s daughter Guppy. Although there wasn’t any plan for follow-ups, the film sets up ideas built upon in the future. In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Robert Rodriguez revealed, “We end these movies that way. Spy Kids didn’t become Spy Kids in the movie’s last scene; these kids don’t become heroes until the last scene of the movie. So even if you didn’t make a sequel, the audience could still imagine sequels because their imagination will go.”
‘We Can Be Heroes 2’? Rodriguez Shares His Thoughts
Rodrigues used ‘Spy Kids’ as an example to say that the kids don’t become a hero right away. It takes the journey of an entire movie for the characters to achieve the status of a ‘HERO.’ That was a good way to imply that these characters are just getting started, and he will love to expand the universe. He also stated that he brought back the characters of Sharkboy and Lavagirl as a way to introduce new characters to the movie. He said know characters such as Sharkboy and Lavagirl help the viewers gravitate towards the movie and emotionally themselves in the newer characters. At the same time, the audience might not latch on to the fresh, newer characters right away. Rodriguez Also admitted that the possibility of a sequel entirely depends on the success of the first film. If this film is successful, then the sequel is inevitable.
Chances Of ‘We Can Be Heroes 2’ Happening
The chances of ‘We Can Be Heroes 2’ happening are far greater than one might think. The movie was originally set to be distributed by Dimension Pictures and Columbia Pictures. But Netflix took over and released it on its streaming platform. That actually works in favor of the movie as there was a high chance of the movie bombing at the box office. Now that it’s on a streaming platform, it gives the movie a better chance of reaching its targeted audience as it’s a family movie. Its main targeted audiences were children below the age of 10. Usually, people flock into the theaters during Christmas time to catch the latest Blockbuster. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, families mostly stayed at home, and will probably continue to do so, which gives the movie a better chance to be discovered by its targeted audience. The movie has a giant line up of A-list actors as well, which will definitely put more eyes on the movie. It has Pedro Pascal in the lead role, who played the lead role of Din Djrain in the Star Wars show ‘The Mandalorian.’
Probable Release Date For ‘We Can Be Heroes 2’
The movie is not official yet. So the release date is up for speculation. The release date will mostly depend on the schedule of Robert Rodriguez. He has a packed schedule coming up. He is currently working on ‘The Book of Bobba Fett’, which is scheduled to premiere in December of 2021. There is also speculation about a possible sequel to ‘Alita: Battle Angel.’
