The Announcement by IST Entertainment
VICTON’s management company, IST Entertainment, issued the statement on March 21. They stated that VICTON member Byngchan had been diagnosed with Corona Virus. He has tested positive on the self-testing kit he preemptively used on March 20. After that, he was gone for PCR testing at a renowned hospital. Following that, they got the information that he is positive for Coronavirus, which was ultimately concerning. Due to this, only Byungchan started taking safety measures in order to control this disease. It was also told that he didn’t have any symptoms of coronavirus.

COVID Outbreak in the Kpop Industry
The new Covid-19 strain is still doing havoc on K-pop, with half of the members of Stray Kids, Verivery, Victon, and GHOST9 testing positive. Because the Omicron outbreak was deemed non-lethal, idols were forced to continue performing in crowded settings. In February, 120 idols received Covid-19 as a result of this. This number could double if South Korea’s new president, Moon Jae-in, keeps his word and removes all social barriers.
In the third week of March alone, over 39 idols tested positive. In reality, the Covid-19 pandemic has begun to impede major occasions such as birthdays, debuts, comebacks, and participation in survival shows. Tempest, NMIXX, DAY6’s Wonpil, and Kep1er had to postpone their debuts due to the cancellation of Blackpink’s Rosé’s appearance at YSL’s Paris Fashion Week event. And now, six of the eight Stray Kids members correctly identified Covid-19 during the album’s release.
On March 18, Stray Kids released their sixth K-pop EP, ‘ODDINARY,’ and held their first music show. Changbin, unfortunately, was the first member to test positive on that day. It was quickly followed by the news that Han, Seungmin, Bang Chan, Lee Know, and Hyunjin had received Covid-19, as everyone was in close communication. On March 21, the most recent three members tested positive. They’ve had their third immunization dose and are showing no signs of illness.
