As a die-hard moviegoer, if there is one film that encapsulates the sheer power of the cinematic medium to express facts, it has to be “The Kashmir Files.” The film isn’t engaged in tone, but what sticks with us are the glimpses of deep pain we see in the character of Pushkar Nath, performed by Anupam Kher in a reliable, moving performance.

In August 2019, Vivek announced the movie via posting a poster on his social media account, saying, “The movie will be an open exploration of one of its greatest human tragic events.” It is filmed at an undisclosed location in the Himalayas, starring “A Wednesday” star Anupam Kher in the lead. His jaw-dropping performances in the character of Pushkar Nath Pandit speaks the pain of the thousands of Kashmiri Pandits who innocently became the victims of the unspeakable painful attack. Darshan Kumaar, who played Krishna Pandit in the movie said, “It is disappointing that it has taken 32 years to present this story on screen. While watching videos, I became numb. It was painful to see such a horrifying act.”

The Kashmir Files: Movie Review!
The last time Bollywood addressed the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley was in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film ‘Shikara.’ ‘The Kashmir Files,’ by Vivek Agnihotri, broadens on that narrative and tries to make this the only lens by which he views it based on the real facts. Pushkar Nath Pandit, played by Anupam Kher, is the emotional center of the movie. He is a teacher who is evicted from Srinagar household after his son is stabbed to death. Krishna, played by Darshan Kumaar, returns to Srinagar with Pushkar Nath’s ashes and, with the assistance of his grandad’s closest friends. On his return, he learns lessons that both anguish and awaken him. Krishna was oblivious to his family’s terrors because he was a boy when they fled.
This isn’t a subtle film; it’s a sledgehammer, plus the way it utilizes its grisly murders and mass executions, which render you shudder and shut your mouth.
