The film begins with a Chapman University conversation between Dr. Abigail Emily Tyler and Olatunde Osunsanmi. Unfortunately, she can’t be able to recall the face of the murderer as she was very frightened at that moment when the incident happened.
As a result, the session makes her cry and leaves her in tears. To calm and soothe Tyler’s mind, Campos convinces her to take a rest and off from her work. However, she insists on continuing to support her husband’s studies. Her two children are shown briefly in the background—first, Ashley, who became blind shortly after the death of her father. Second, Ronnie believes his mother murdered him.
She starts her research on the sleep-deprived in Nome, Alaska, her remote hometown. Later on, Abbey watches tape recordings of three patients undergoing hypnotherapy. Additionally, he asks all the time what does “Zimbabwe Eter” means.
Trying to convince Tommy to put down his gun, Abbey intercedes. Later, Tommy turns the gun on himself after shooting his family. Abbey suspects the patients have been abducted by the aliens based on the similarities in their stories. In addition to that, there are signs that her own life was threatened. An aide hands her a tape recording showing her being attacked and entangled by something playing on a tape recorder, and the assailant talks in a language she has never heard before. Abbey forgets about the incident later on. Abbey’s colleague from Anchorage, Abel Campos, finds the claims very suspicious. Abbey comes in contact with Dr. Awolowa Odusami for assistance.
