Stateless

Cate Blanchett, Tony Ayres, and Elise McCredie created the Australian drama TV show Stateless, which is produced by Dirty Films, Screen Australia, Matchbox Pictures, and the South Australian Film Corporation. Yvonne Strahovski, Jai Courtney, Asher Keddie, and Fayssal Bazzi feature in the show. On July 8, 2020, ABC premiered the series Stateless. There has only been one season thus far. Based on 4,656 user votes, the series presently has a 7.5 out of 10 IMDb rating.

Even though the Australian drama series Stateless is set in the mid-2000s, the light it sheds on themes like immigration, migration, and Australia’s policies feel as topical as ever. It managed to present a gripping and heartbreaking story of those caught up in the Australian government’s mandatory detention program in just six episodes, leaving many viewers wanting more.

There hasn’t been any news concerning a second season of Stateless as of now. Even though Big Little Lies is advertised as a limited series, the existence of season 2 shows that labels can simply be modified if those in authority desire to do so.During an interview with Deadline in February, series co-creators Cate Blanchett and Tony Ayers were asked about the prospect of a second season. Although Blanchett stated that the show was “definitely designed that way [as a one-off],” she did not rule out the possibility of a second season. She clarified, “What’s happened is that the situation’s problematic character has only deepened, becoming more entangled and politicized. In this regard, the series feels unfinished.”

We have a few thoughts for what season 2 of Stateless might look like based on the show’s magnificent finale and other hints given by Blanchett.

When can we anticipate the second season of Stateless to premiere?

Before everyone gets too enthusiastic, let’s get one thing straight: without official news on whether or not there will be a Season 2 of Stateless, it’s difficult to predict when the aforementioned season will air. However, there are a few things we do know that could help us figure out a timeline.

According to a story from The Advertiser, Stateless began filming at the end of May 2019. The series then launched on Australian television on March 1, 2020, before being released on Netflix in July for worldwide viewers.

So we know that the show aired on TV in less than a year from the start of production. If a second season is announced, this may prove to be a useful benchmark for determining how soon we should expect season 2 after that announcement. Given what we know about the development of Season 1 of Stateless and the current condition of television and film production around the world, we anticipate that Season 2 of Stateless will premiere in 2022 at the earliest.

Will the cast of Stateless season 2 be the same as the first?

Who might feature in the second season of Stateless depends on the show’s trajectory. If the show is a continuation of the first season’s stories, some cast members appear to be more likely to return than others. Cam (Jai Courtney) and Claire (Asher Keddie), two conflicted detention center employees, seemed to have strong conclusions.

Ameer (Fayssal Bazzi), on the other hand, left the series on a more unclear note. Mina (Soraya Heidari), his daughter, acquired a visa and moved to Australia to live with a foster family, but he remained in detention indefinitely. Although it was hinted that he would be deported back to Afghanistan, his last scenes in the series were more open-ended than those of the other characters.

Sofie (Yvonne Strahovski), like Ameer, had an ending that left her character development unfinished. Even though her sister saved her from the detention center, she ends up in a psychiatric facility, and the smile on her face in her final seconds on screen is not one of happiness. If the program had to choose between Ameer’s and Sofie’s narratives for a second season, Ameer’s and Sofie’s seem like the most likely candidates.

Of course, the series may include an entirely new cast. According to co-creator Blanchett, a second season would bring new stories to the forefront.

What direction could the plot of Stateless season 2 take?

“Rather than going on and doing another series, even though there are so many more things to tell in this vein,” Blanchett remarked when asked about a second season, “what’s more essential to us is establishing a discourse around it.”

This means that if a second season is made, it may focus on completely different topics, all of which are related to Australia’s immigration rules. The first season’s finale includes facts concerning the state of Australia’s immigration system, such as the fact that since 2012, refugees coming by boat have been incarcerated on offshore detention camps in places like the Micronesian island nation of Nauru. This approach has generated a lot of debate, and an International Criminal Court prosecutor even deemed it illegal (via The Guardian). If the show wants to “scaffold a conversation” about migration and detention by telling more stories, that story could be the way to go.

Netflix Series “Stateless”

Finally, we’ll have to wait and see if Stateless returns for a second season. If it succeeds, the program has set itself up for a second season that will be just as emotional and politically complex as the first.

Explained: The End of Season 1 of Stateless

The stakes for the characters on Netflix’s original series Stateless were as high as they get from the first episode to the closing seconds of the finale. Cate Blanchett co-created the drama, which is set in the Australian desert in the mid-2000s and follows four individuals whose lives intertwine at an immigration detention center. They come from very diverse areas of life, yet they are all profoundly touched by the country’s refugee and asylum-seeker policy.

Sofie Werner (Yvonne Strahovski) is a flight attendant who suffers from mental illness as a result of her involvement with the GOPA cult. She tries to exit the country by impersonating Eva Hoffman, a German traveler, but she ends herself in the Barton immigration detention center. Ameer (Fayssal Bazzi), an Afghan teacher who is urgently attempting to secure visas for himself and his daughter, Mina (Soraya Heidari), who are the only two surviving members of their family, is also buried at Barton.

Cam (Jai Courtney), a working-class husband and parent, is keeping an eye on Sofie and Ameer. He obtained a job as a guard at Barton after hearing that it pays better than other jobs. Cam reports to Claire (Asher Keddie), a career bureaucrat who has been assigned to supervise Barton despite preferring to work in the theoretical realm of policy rather than the day-to-day realities of the circumstances that policies create.

As Barton prepares to have a Human Rights Council inspect the facility in the season’s last episode, each character’s narrative comes to a head. On the last episode of Stateless, here’s how each of those storylines wraps up.

What Was The Reaction To The Show?

While the show was not particularly popular, critics praised it. The show’s dramatic talents and storytelling have made it one of Netflix’s best. The show is well-received and features dramatic stories and emotions.

Age classification without a state

Stateless has a TV-MA rating, indicating that it is intended for adults and may not be suitable for minors under the age of 17. One or more of the following may be included in this program: Explicit sexual behavior, crude obscene language, or graphic violence are all prohibited.

Ameer must make a difficult choice.

In the final scene, Ameer begins to run out of the road. Claire is looking into the lies he told concerning his journey to Australia to his case officer. Ameer is well aware that if he tells her the whole truth — that he obtained the funds to pay for his boat journey during a heist in which someone was stabbed to death — he will be denied asylum. Ameer eventually devises a tragic scheme. He alters his story, informing Claire that his wife and daughters are not his biological children. He claims they were traveling alone and that he pretended to be his family to improve his chances of obtaining refuge.

Claire knows he’s lying, but she can’t do anything about it because she doesn’t have any proof. Mina will be granted a visa and placed with a foster home as a result of his deception, as she will be classed as a kid traveling alone. Ameer will be held in custody forever and will most likely be deported back to Afghanistan, where he has lost his whole family.

After a tearful goodbye with her father, Mina is liberated from the camp. Ameer is heartbroken and returns to the refugee camp, where he is consoled by his peers. Mina is seen on the beach in the episode’s closing shot, having begun her new life. Her expression is a mix of despair and hope as she glances towards the lake.

Stateless is touted as a limited series, thus there isn’t likely to be a second season. While many of the characters’ conclusions aren’t cheerful, they do provide a painfully personal face to a very genuine political issue.
