Slam Dunk is a manga series renowned throughout the manga as one of the best sports manga to this very day. It is been written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. The manga series during its run time was praised by everyone for its story, characters, and its main protagonist. The manga series has a total of 170 million copies in circulation and which makes it the seventh best-selling manga series in the world. Like much popular manga series, an anime adaptation was announced, which was met with a positive response by the fans. At that time, the anime studio behind that handled it was none other than Toei Animation, which is a renowned and reputed studio who have handled a project like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and many more projects.
Alongside the anime, many anime films were produced by the same studio. The anime series ended back in March 1996, and since then, fans haven’t gotten any news related to Slam Dunk ever since but that things changed as it was announced that the beloved franchise is making a trumpet return with a film that is going to be directed and written by Inoue as well as Yasuyuki Ebara designing as the characters for the new film. This announcement was made on Takehiko Inoue’s official Twitter account revealed the new anime film.
The cast of the movie hasn’t been revealed yet, but it is most likely the voice actors from the previous anime will reprise their roles. It will most likely consist of Hanamichi Sakuragi voiced by Takeshi Kusao, Takenori Akagi voiced by Kiyoyuki Yanada, Kiminobu Kogure voiced by Hideyuki Tanaka, Hisashi Mitsui voiced by Ryotaro Okiayu, Ryota Miyagi voiced by Yoku Shioya, Kaede Rukawa voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa, Yasuharu Yasuda voiced by Masaya Onosaka, Haruko Akagi voiced by Akiko Hiramatsu, Yohei Mito voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa, Yuji Ohkusu voiced by Nobutoshi Canna and many more.
For those who don’t know, the story of the show revolves around Hanamichi Sakuragi, who is a very popular gang leader who is very unpopular with girls. He has been rejected by girls fifty times, but one day, he meets the girl of his dream named Haruko Akagi, who isn’t scared of him. They both go out, but Haruko noticed Sakuragi’s athleticism and introduced him to the Shohoku basketball team. He then joins the team, and little by little, this group becomes an all-star contender in Japan who gained popularity after defeating one of the most powerful high school teams at Interhigh.
Slam Dunk Release Date
With this announcement, the fans are hoping for the announcement of a new anime for Slam Dunk, but unfortunately, there isn’t any news regarding whether or not there will be a new anime coming or not. Regardless, the fans of the Slam Dunk have a film to look forward to, and its release window has been released, which is fall 2022. Most likely, the film will be released in November or December of 2022.
