What is the plot of the movie?
Room follows the story of a young mother, Joy, who was captive of a man whom she called “Old Nick.” Her son Jack, who is five, was born while she was captive. He has never seen the outside world. Joy has confronted him that the Room is the real world. Jack’s father brutally beats Joy and rapes her while Jack was in the closet. Joy and her son are living in a room with a bathroom, kitchen, and a room attach to it.

Joy wants her son to explore the outside world, and she tries her best to do that. She fakes Jack’s fever so that the old Nick can take him to the hospital. But instead, he brought him the Antibiotics. Then later, she fakes her son’s death and wraps him on a carpet. Thinking Jack is dead, the old Nick took him to a truck that throws the body into the countryside. However, Jack jumps off the truck in runs away. Old Nick tries to chase him but was arrested by the police.
The police then rescued Joy from the room. Joy and Jack came to live with her mother, who only came to her parents are divorced now, and her mother lives with her new partner. Joy’s father rejects to accept Jack as his grandson. Disappointed, Joy returns to the village to live with her mother and her partner.

Room Ending Explained
Joy finds a job in a near by the office. However, her son was not happy with life in the real world. He urges her to return to the room. Joy agrees to give a television interview. However, in the interview, she became upset when the interviewer asked her why didn’t she allow her captive to take her son to the hospital then he could have a normal life.

Shocked by the statement, Joy tries to commit suicide. Jack finds her in the bathroom and was later hospitalized. Meanwhile, Jack starts missing his mother. However, he starts enjoying living with his new family. Also, he made a friend of his age. In the meanwhile, his mother returns and apologizes for her deeds.
They started embracing their new life and starts doing lots of new things. Both Jack and Joy’s life gets back on track. The Room has a happy ending. In the end, the two had the last visit to the Room at Jack’s request. They were then escorted by police. Jack thinks the room has shrunk and is more open now. At the end of the Room, the two bids adieu to the room and return.
