Netflix has tied hands with production company Shondaland earlier. And, it looks like Shondaland has begun designing entertainment ideas for the streaming giant. Recently, news has surfaced that a new mini-series is about to happen as a part of Shonda Rhime’s monster output deal. Moreover, this new limited series will be called ‘Inventing Anna.’ However, Inventing Anna is third on the list from Shonda Rhine after her projects, Dance Dreams and Bridgerton. Bridgerton will be arriving this Christmas.
Currently, Bridgerton is receiving huge attention due to its soon-arrival. However, Inventing Anna is the one that is generating exclusive buzz from Netflix.
Although the upcoming series is in its early production stage, we still have some details on it. So, make sure to go ahead and check them out.
Production And Release Date
The idea for the show goes back to 2018. A couple of years ago, Shondaland and Netflix acquired the rights for New York Magazine article ‘How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People.’ Jessica Pressler wrote this article, which will now transform into a television series.
The principal photography began a year after, in 2019. And the final production started in February 2020. However, just like other Netflix shows, Inventing Anna was shut down too due to the ongoing coronavirus. After the halt, the filming resumed in September 2020 and is currently in process.
Furthermore, pictures of the cast members are dropped online through various sources. It clearly shows that the team is in New York filming for the show.
As for the release date, no update is out at the moment. But, we can expect the series to premiere in mid-2021, considering that it will end filming anytime soon.
Also, the show will be a ‘one season’ series, with ten episodes. Meaning, there won’t be a season 2.
Inventing Anna: Story And Cast
Every other film or series is based on a true story these days; And, so is Inventing Anna. The story is based on Anna Sorokin (aka Anna Delvey), who tricked and deceived the New York Elites. It is based entirely on an NYMag article, but it is actually not posted in the NYMag. You can find it in a subsidiary called ‘The Cut.’
The cast and crew of the series are huge and not-surprisingly a very brilliant one too. The show is produced by Shonda Rhimes ( Grey’s Anatomy) alongside Betsy Beers (Grey’s Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder). Rhimes is also serving as the writer for the show. Moreover, David Frankel (The Devil wears Prada) will be directing the show, besides serving as the executive producer.
The cast includes Julia Garner (Ozark) as Anna Delvey, Laverne Cox (Orange Is The New Black) as Kacy Duke, Arian Moayed (Succession) as Todd, and Anders Holm (Workaholics) as Jack.
Also, Anna Deavere Smith (Nurse Jackie) as Maud, Jeff Perry (Dirty John) as Lou Terry, Kinney (Billions) as Barry, and Anna Chlumsky (Veep) as Vivian will be seen in the show.
