Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has finally hit the screen on 25 February 2022. The movie has already gained a good hype and is loved by the audience. Gangubai Kathiawadi is a movie based on Zaidi’s “Mafia Queens of Mumbai.” The movie is based on a real story, and it is already creating havoc on the internet. It follows the story of a young girl who is stripped of innocence and is forced into the prostitute business after her suitor brought her to Mumbai. The young Ganga|Gangu quickly absorb the reality of her new world and learns to swing the things in her favor.
The movie is a reality check of the life of sex workers in Mumbai. It is the story of a girl who was forced into the business and later turns the table in her favor becoming the “Queen of Kamathipura”. The movie has received mixed reviews, with most of them praising the acting of the actors while others criticizing how the image of Gangubai has been portrayed. Gangubai was queen of Kamathipura, and certainly, people respect her. Some are unhappy how the Gangubai has been presented on the screen as people believe she never wanted to be a prostitute, but in the movie, it shown she want to. That has led to a major controversy.

Gangubai Kathiawadi Movie Review!
Gangubai Kathiawadi’s taut writing and bold dialogues have hit it out of the park. The puncher dialogue with the flavor of light-hearted comedy has perfectly hit the patch. The movie was released in three different languages, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, on around 3000 screens all over India. Previously, it was released at Berlin Film Festival and accoladed positive reviews. Gangubai Kathaiwadi’s tragic and dramatic scene depicts the young women who were sold by their bordello.

These young women were inviting standing at the doorstep of Kotha in the bustling bylanes of south Mumbai’s infamous red-light area district called Kamathipura. Set entirely against the gritty backdrop of Mumbai, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi tells the story of hundreds of young sex workers who have been saved by the Mafia Queen of Kamathipura Gangubai.
She enrolled herself in the election and later emerged as the savor for the women of Kamathipura. Along with Alia Bhat, Gangubai Kathaiwadi stars Ajey Devgn, Vijay Raaz, and Shantanu Mashewari, who plays the role of the lover boy of Gangubai. Seema Pahwa and Indira Tiwari were seen in the supporting cast. It is surely a big-budget worth watching movie.

Who was Gangubai Kathiawadi?
Gangubai kathiawadi is a movie based on Gangubai who was born as Ganga Harjeevandas. Ganga was born in a village named Kathiawad in Gujrat. She belonged to a well-established family. In her teenage days, Young Ganga falls in love with her father’s accountant Ramnik Laal. Ramnik and Ganga eloped from their house and later got married. The two arrived in Mumbai, where Ramnik tricked her and sold her for INR 500 into the prostitution business.

At the start of the movie, the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali depicts a scene where we could see how the other lady of Kamathipura teaches Ganga to seduce men. The shy and innocent younger later learn to live in the reality of the world and emerge as strong independent women. Gangubai was known to be under the protection of the don of Mumbai Karim Lala. According to Zaidi’s book, Gangubai is the Rakhi sister of Karim, and she even tied the Rakhi to his wrist. Karim Lala has provided her protection from goons who raped her twice. Gangubai has also lobbied for the commercial rights of the women working as prostitutes.
