The strengthened plan adds one more layer of protection for passengers who are now typically demanded to don masks although on flights, during boarding and in Delta waiting regions. If they do not comply, they confront becoming banned from upcoming flights.

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao explained at a June 3 function hosted by Politico that she opposed a federal requirement on masks.
