The review Of The Series!
In the Netflix series Archive 81, a modern-day film curator is recruited by a millionaire to recover fire-damaged video cassettes captured in 1994 in a burning apartment building. The researcher soon realizes that he has a personal connection to the fire and discovers a long-lost film by a well-known horror film filmmaker. Rebecca Sonnenshine created and co-wrote this episode based on a podcast by Daniel Powell and Marc Sollinger.
After a promising start, the program begins to feel overwhelmed by the height of its cliches. Instead of a spellbinding feast, we get an overblown, exhausting, repetitious jumble riddled with cliches and heavy-handed recaps that coddle the audience and zap the story in their telling rather than showing. Unfortunately, no amount of metaphor mixing or INCESSANTLY SCREAMING ACTRESSES could resurrect my feeling of excitement towards the end.
In a way, they should have quit while he was still putting in a solid effort. If you are going to watch this show, I strongly advise you not to read any of the reviews first because they are untrustworthy. I’ll give it four stars just for that reason, but aside from that, this show is fantastic! Each scene’s tension appears to catch your attention and push you to desire more. The performance is superb, and the sense of dread laced throughout the entire cult, sci-fi narrative has left me dumbfounded!
