Del Harris, the protagonist, is the chief of police of a tiny town in the Pennsylvania Rust Belt, played by Jeff Daniels. When the son of his love interest, played by Maura Tierney, is suspected of murder, Harris’ already complicated life is thrown into disarray. However, the show not only follows his tale but also that of several other characters in the community, and it addresses themes such as drug usage and economic stagnation.

‘American Rust’ was expected to be a welcome addition to the profusion of current television shows that portray small-town life through the lens of larger, dramatic conflict. Each Piece Of the Story :
After work, Del Harris picks up Jackson and takes him out for a drink. After repeating a statement from Shakespeare’s Hamlet about being rotten, he shocks Jackson up by referencing “pulling up cancer and tearing the whole thing out.” This is yet another indication of Jackson’s role in all of this, given that he’s been working with Bobby Jesus all along.
The music has always been a standout feature of this series, and the next scene demonstrates why. It’s mysterious, tense, and spooky, and it’s perfect for setting the mood when Del Harris sneaks into Bobby’s residence across state lines. The only problem is that Bobby was expecting it. Bobby chokes him out, only to be rewarded with a lethal gunshot from Del. When Jackson arrives, Del shoots him as well, then sets up the crime scene to make it appear as if the two had killed each other.
He didn’t account for the presence of an elderly lady, who shoots Del with a shotgun. He retaliates by killing her, but this causes a serious dilemma for him. Del now has three bodies, and he’s compelled to orchestrate the entire situation to remain undetectable. Del returns home to Grace, who assists him in removing all of the gunshot bits from his shoulder. Despite his dubious techniques, Grace reassures Del, telling him that he’s one of the good guys in the world.
Billy is returned to prison after being released from solitary confinement. He orders the guard to leave a note for Lee, saying, “I kept my word.” He declares. This is, of course, an allusion to him covering for Isaac and carrying his secret to the grave.
How is the first season of American Rust going to end?
He’s beaten down the moment he walks into the main hall, as expected. Billy is rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition. Broken ribs, scratches, and bruises, as well as an induced medical coma to try to reduce his brain swelling. As Billy’s life hangs in the balance, Grace arrives to check on her son, despondent about what has happened to him.
In the meantime, word of the triple homicide spreads. Del arrives at the station and discovers Virgil Poe in his office while the station is abuzz with the news. He apologizes in a roundabout way before bringing up Grace’s mistake of burning down her house. She’s left a gym bag in the tool shed with images of Billy that were initially hung on her trailer’s wall. Virgil realizes it was all manufactured, but he’ll retain it for “difficult times ahead.”
Henry pops several tablets and heads out into the yard, understanding that Lee may be trapped in this town and compelled to look after him. Lee finds out when she notices the empty packets and rushes down to find him slumped to the side in his chair. Given that this is the final time we see him this season, it’s unclear whether he will live or die.
The Climax :
Detectives from Pittsburgh arrive after he left. They start asking Del Harris about Chuck Castellanos, an old friend of his. Del, on the other hand, lies, claiming that the last time he saw the man was just before he left Pittsburgh. However, Isaac’s arrival in town interrupts their talk.
He goes to the station and shows Del Harris the wrench that was used in the assassination. Del squints at him and tells him to get out of here and never reveal the wrench to anyone.
While selfish for those left to mourn him, his suicide is ultimately an act of kindness on his behalf, allowing Lee to flee Buell because Henry is the only thing keeping her there. But, now that Isaac has returned, does that still bear the same weight?
There are certainly some intriguing possibilities for Season 2, and to be honest, the only way this show may be renewed is if another significant character is killed. Will Del kill Virgil, too, because he has proof that might be used to implicate Grace?
Season 2 features a lot of questions, answers, and scenarios; despite some blips along the road, American Rust has been a slow burn but ultimately a really interesting watch.
American Rust Season 2 – What can we expect?
Season one ends in a way that isn’t typical of most movies: with a cliffhanger that makes you eager for the second season. Season two could focus on Billy’s destiny and Lee’s next steps now that Henry is reportedly dead. There’s also a chance Del will reunite with Isaac and build a case around all of the killings he’s committed.
