On Friday, a significant escalation occurred when Hezbollah fired approximately 100 rockets into northern Israel, leading to a decisive response from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This aggression resulted in the deaths of at least seven Hezbollah operatives. The IDF retaliated by targeting these operatives in various locations across southern Lebanon.
Among the operatives killed was Muhammad Mahmoud Negm, identified as a key Hezbollah figure, who was eliminated by the Israeli Air Force in Aaita El Zot. Another notable figure, Saeed Mahmoud Daeb, was also struck in the Tyre area. Four additional operatives were killed in separate IDF strikes targeting Hezbollah cells, including one preparing to launch rockets from Tayr Harfa.
Hezbollah’s rocket attacks predominantly affected Upper Galilee, with around 40 rockets crossing the Lebanese border. The IDF intercepted some of these projectiles, although the exact number was not disclosed. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or casualties within Israel following these attacks.
This escalation comes amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, as Jerusalem gears up for a possible broader conflict due to recent Iranian threats. Efforts by the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar to negotiate a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel are ongoing, with the aim of preventing a larger regional war involving Iran and its proxy forces, including Hezbollah.
Despite these diplomatic efforts, Israeli officials remain doubtful about achieving lasting peace. Negotiations between Hamas and Israel are stalled over issues related to security corridors in Gaza, and Israeli security experts continue to view Hezbollah as a major threat, even with ongoing international mediation attempts.
