In May 2020, Henry Cejudo fought Dominick Cruz at UFC 249, defending his bantamweight title for the first time. It was Cruz’s first fight in three and a half years. Cejudo won the match with a TKO in the second round, proving himself as the top fighter in the division.

Now, four years later, Dominick Cruz is eager for a rematch with Cejudo. Reflecting on their previous fight, Cruz acknowledges that he lost fair and square but believes that he can offer a better version of himself if given another chance. On the OverDogs Podcast, he expressed his desire for the rematch, confident that both fighters could deliver an improved and more competitive performance.

Cruz points out that he has granted rematches to other fighters in the past, such as Joseph Benavidez and Urijah Faber, and thinks it’s fair that he gets a rematch with Cejudo.

Given that Cejudo has recently faced back-to-back losses, Cruz feels the timing is appropriate for them to meet again in the octagon. He argues that the rematch makes sense not only for their careers but also for the bantamweight division.

While it’s uncertain if Cejudo is interested in the rematch, the potential fight could be significant for both fighters as they aim to return to title contention at 135lbs. Cruz highlights that both he and Cejudo are looking to bounce back from their recent losses.

Although Cruz is keen on the idea, he mentions that no formal offer for the fight has been made yet. Cejudo’s recent decision losses to Merab Dvalishvili and Aljamain Sterling, coupled with Cruz’s knockout loss to Marlon Vera in August 2022, set the stage for a potentially compelling rematch.
