The move has been slammed as insensitive to Christian values, with Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, stating, “We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” House Speaker Mike Johnson, a vocal conservative, echoed similar sentiments, labeling the decision “outrageous and abhorrent.”
The White House responded by lashing out at Republicans for employing “cruel, hateful and dishonest rhetoric” to divide and weaken the country. Spokesperson Andrew Bates defended Biden, saying the President stands for unity and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American. Bates emphasized that Biden would never “abuse his faith for political purposes or for profit.” As a Catholic, Biden’s faith is a core part of his identity, and he regularly attends Mass and considers it a guiding moral force in his life.
