The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to rage on, leaving a trail of devastation and desperation in its wake. Despite efforts to negotiate a ceasefire, the situation in Gaza remains dire, with nearly 30,000 people killed, including two-thirds of them women and children. The war has also displaced about 80 per cent of Gaza’s 2.3 million people, who are struggling to access basic necessities such as food and medicine. The Israeli military has been accused of ignoring a UN ruling to provide urgently needed aid to Gaza, with a 30 per cent drop in daily aid deliveries since the ruling was issued.
The situation in Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost town, has sparked global concern, with Israel planning to expand its ground operation into the area. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh has submitted his government’s resignation, and President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to appoint technocrats in line with US demands for internal reform. The US has called for a revitalized Palestinian Authority to govern post-war Gaza ahead of eventual statehood, a scenario rejected by Israel.
Residents of Gaza are desperate for an end to the conflict, with many struggling to access basic necessities. Naim Abouseido, a Gazan resident, said, “I wish death for the children because I cannot get them bread. I cannot feed them. I cannot feed my own children. What did we do to deserve this?” The war has pushed a quarter of Gaza’s population toward starvation, and raised fears of imminent famine, especially in the northern part of the territory.
The situation in Gaza is a humanitarian disaster, with people living in overcrowded conditions and struggling to access basic necessities such as food, water, and sanitation. The conflict has also caused widespread destruction, with many homes and buildings destroyed or damaged.
