Cher’s Bid for Conservatorship of Son Denied Temporarily

Cher and son Elijah Blue Allman

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has declined to immediately grant Cher’s petition for conservatorship of her 47-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman, at a hearing on Friday. Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui ruled that Cher’s lawyers had not provided the necessary documents to Elijah Blue’s lawyers, giving them sufficient time to prepare their case. The judge scheduled another hearing for January 29 to address the matter.

Cher had filed a petition seeking control of Elijah Blue’s finances, citing his struggles with addiction and mental health as the reason. She claimed that he is unable to manage his own finances and that his situation poses a danger to his life, including his ability to buy drugs. Elijah Blue, however, disputes the need for a conservatorship, saying that he is under the care of a doctor, has been sober for over three months, and is attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Elijah Blue acknowledged his struggles with addiction and irresponsible spending, but argued that a conservatorship is not necessary at this time. He expressed gratefulness for his mother’s love and support, but stated that he does not need her unsolicited help or support at this moment. His lawyers declined to comment after the hearing.

Cher was not present at the hearing, and her lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The court has given Elijah Blue’s lawyers additional time to prepare their case, and the matter will be reassessed at the January 29 hearing. The pending payment from Elijah Blue’s trust left by his late father, musician Gregg Allman, played a significant factor in Cher’s request, as it has the potential to worsen his situation. Judge Uzcategui emphasized the importance of sharing necessary information between both parties, stating that she is not persuaded by Cher’s lawyers’ claim of confidentiality concerns.
