Carol Kirkwood, the 61-year-old BBC weather presenter, has expressed her joy and gratitude after getting married to her husband Steve this week. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony, which Carol described as a “tiny wedding but so romantic and intimate.” She thanked her fans for their messages of congratulations, stating that they had the “most perfect day” and were “bursting with happiness.”
The news was revealed on BBC Breakfast, where Carol’s colleagues Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty congratulated her and shared pictures of the couple’s big day. The snaps show Carol wearing a boat neckline satin dress, reminiscent of Meghan Markle’s classic style, and holding a bouquet of long-stemmed roses.
Friends and colleagues from the BBC and beyond quickly took to social media to congratulate the couple. Dan Walker, a former BBC Breakfast host, praised Steve, saying he was “one very fortunate gentleman,” while TV presenter Rylan Clark wrote, “Congrats to you both Carol xx.” Radio and TV star Carol Vorderman added, “You are beautiful inside and out. Wishing you both every happiness as ever xx.”
This is not the first time the couple has been in the spotlight. Back in May, Carol revealed that Steve had proposed to her during a picnic at the Chelsea Flower Show, saying she had “absolutely no idea” he was going to pop the question. The romantic gesture was captured on air by her BBC Breakfast colleagues Sally Nugent and Jon Kay.
Carol’s husband Steve, whose surname has not been publicly disclosed, is said to be a private person who keeps a low profile. The couple had been together for some time before Carol announced their engagement on air, and Steve has been supportive of her career, even getting up at 3 am to make her a cup of tea before she goes to work.
In her free time, Carol is an avid writer and recently published her debut romantic novel, Under A Greek Moon. She spoke to Prima magazine about her aspirations to retire one day and focus on her writing, but for now, she is juggling her dual careers as a weather presenter and author.
