Police divers are scouring the port of Barcelona and the Llobregat Delta, a vital wetland zone near the Catalan capital, in a desperate bid to locate the missing body of 24-year-old rugby player Levi Davis.
The search operation commenced at 10 am today, according to a spokesperson for the Mossos d’Esquadra regional police force, but officials cannot predict how long it will continue. The investigation, which has been ongoing since October 29, when Davis vanished after landing in Barcelona from Ibiza, has taken a major turn with the discovery of a possible sighting of the young man by four members of the MSC Bellissima cruise liner.
As reported by Davis’s mother, Julie, police have informed her that the crew members claimed to have seen a man in the sea, dressed in the same light-coloured top as Levi, shouting for help in English.
A lifebuoy was tossed towards the individual, and a comprehensive search operation was launched, involving coastguards, firefighters, police, and Red Cross vessels. The search effort, which lasted for an entire day, was eventually called off as no one was found missing from the cruise liner and no reports of missing persons were received from port waters or the sea off Barcelona.
It appears that the possibility of Davis drowning in or near the port waters has emerged, and authorities have now authorized underwater searches to locate his body. The investigation remains ongoing, with local investigators continuing to piece together the events surrounding Davis’s disappearance. As the search efforts continue, hopes for a miraculous recovery remain slim, and the family and loved ones of the missing rugby player can only wait anxiously for any updates on the situation.
