Besides, he also directed a few episodes of Mindhunter.
Mank will be out in the fall on Netflix. The story will spin around the personal and professional life of Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. So, without waiting any further, let’s dive into the article and check the fresh and new shots:
Everything We Know About ‘Mank’
Mank is definitely a very special film for Fincher as its screenplay was written by his father, Jack Fincher, before his death in 2003. The movie will center on the life of Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. And his struggle to get ‘Citizen Kane’ made. He will also be seen juggling between his life and career to get things done.
The movie is shot at Kemper Campbell Ranch in Victorville, Calif. Moreover, it is the exact same place where Mankiewicz spent two months of his life designing the first draft of ‘Citizen Kane’. It is still considered one of the greatest screenplays ever written. Mankiewicz was known for his heavy-drinking lifestyle, but, due to the ranch’s no strict alcohol policy, he was able to focus on Welles’ character.
Gary Oldman will lead the film and will portray the role of Herman J. Mankiewicz. The supporting cast will include Amanda Seyfried as actress Marion Davies. Lily Collins, Tuppence Middleton, Charles Dance, Tom Pelphrey, and Tom Burke will also be seen in the movie.
The crew includes some of Fincher’s old colleagues. The crucial crew members include Mindhunter’s cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, and composer Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who also won an Oscar for ‘The Social Network’.
Citizen Kane And Mank
Of course, Citizen Kane plays an important role in Mankiewicz’s life, which will reflect in the new movie. So, to honor his project, Fincher will release his film, Mank, on the 79th anniversary of Citizen Kane’s wide theatrical opening. The movie will be entirely on Mankiewicz’s life and also Citizen Kane, and so, a lot from the classic will mirror in the new project.
