With Higurashi When They Cry Reboot Episode 4 just a few days away from airing, let’s recap what all has happened in the recent episodes. Higurashi When They Cry Reboot is one of the greatly needed anime reboots, especially with the success the original anime had. It truly is one of the better written and made horror anime series, with all its mysterious elements and absolutely perfect soundtracks. So far three episodes have been released with more to come, the Anime has been somewhat calm so far with a little bit of thriller but since episode 3 it has picked up it’s pace.

The Anime has finally taken a turn towards the horror side of the story. Episode 3 introduced Keiichi to the curse of Hinamizawa, and the mysterious activities happening in the small town. The episode starts with Rena and Keiichi praying to Oyashiro-sama and dropping the cotton into the river. Soon after Keiichi is seen walking along the riverside and notices Tomitake and another woman talking, seeing as the mood was nice he decides to leave them be and walks away.

The next day, Keiichi is visited by an old man named Ooishi at school. The man claims to be a police officer and informs him that Tomitake along with the woman he was with both have disappeared and quite possibly killed. The man also tells him that in the town of Hinamizawa this happens every year where one person is killed and another disappears and that this happens after every Watanagashi Festival. Keiichi is asked to help solve this mystery by keeping an eye out for people and informing him of any suspicious activities.

Keiichi, who was already quite interested in the case and was sure that all his friends were keeping a secret about the murders from him, obliged. He later confronts Rena about what she has been hiding from him and for the very first time, Rena acts more like a Yandere than ever. Surprised by this reaction he decides to let it be and heads home.

Near the end of the episode, while Keiichi is lying in bed wondering about what and who is behind the killing, his dad tells him there is a call for him. Ooishi had called him to see if he had any information for him and told him some things he uncovered about Rena. This is the part of the episode where the suspense hit the highest, while Keiichi is on a call with Mr.Ooishi his dad knocks on the door. Once he opens the door he’s greeted by a tray with tea and biscuits for two people, confused by this he asks why he brought this to his room. His father tells him he had sent Rena upstairs to his room a few minutes ago. Keiichi realizes that Rena was eavesdropping on him and had probably heard everything that was discussed on the call.

The Story follows the life of Keiichi Maebara, A highschool boy who just moved to a small town called Hinamizawa. Upon reaching there, he soon made some inseparable friends in Rena Ryuugu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude, all of whom seem very nice. Just when the anime seemed like a typical slice of life, romance anime, the anime does a complete 180º. The town of Hinamizawa is prevalent for people being murdered or disappearing, most people assume it’s the wrath and judgment of the Spirit God of the town. When Keiichi tries to get to the bottom of this mystery by asking his new friends for more information about this mystery, they start avoiding the question and dodging the conversation. This makes Keiichi start wondering if the mystery is more than just what it seems

Higurashi When They Cry Reboot Episode 4 will be airing on the 22nd of October 2020 and will probably be even more exciting than the previous episode. The Anime series can be streamed on Funimation and is being simulcasted for English viewers.
