Higurashi When They Cry (2020) Episode 5 – Release Date And Recap

Higurashi When They Cry (2020) Anime

Higurashi When They Cry (2020) Episode 4 was a complete rollercoaster of an episode. Personally speaking, I can’t wait for Episode 5 to come out next week just so I can make sense of what happened. So far, the anime has been somewhat slow but still good enough to give goosebumps or a chilly feeling, with Rena starting to show her real self and other mysterious things happening in Hinamizawa. As Keiichi digs deeper into what’s happening, the more he’s surprised by who all are involved in the murder incidents and the Curse of Oyashiro-sama.

Higurashi When They Cry (2020) Episode 4 | Recap

In the latest episode, Rena finally showed off her psychopathic behavior, which led to Keiichi being paranoid about himself being in danger. The following day, Keiichi, not feeling well, decides to head to a clinic only to find out it’s closed and just heads to school. Upon arrival, he’s greeted with Mion and Rena, followed by Rika and Satoko, who come in later on. Keiichi, shaken up from Rena’s behavior the previous day, begins spacing out. Rika later meets him behind the school and asks him what’s wrong.

Keiichi, although reluctant in the beginning, explains that Rena has been acting off and that she is genuinely scary to him. Rika tells Keiichi that it most likely is Keiichi’s imagination and that anything that might seem off is probably because of Keiichi and not Rena. She also tells him that whenever he feels like this, he should first think about what he did. This clears up Keiichi’s head, and he decides to apologize to Rena.

Later that day, he reaches home to an empty house and begins to wonder where his parents went. Keiichi’s parents later inform that they are in Tokyo due to some urgent work and will stay the night. His mother tells him that Rena will prepare dinner for him, Keiichi is scared as he doesn’t trust Rena. When Rena arrives, Keiichi tries to send her off, but upon considering Rika’s advice, he lets her in. Rena had brought weapons concealed in a bento box. She uses them to try and kill Keiichi but is not successful as Keiichi fights back. In the end, both of them are lying on the floor covered in blood.

Keiichi later wakes up in a hospital covered in bandages, with his parents by his side. He asks about Rena, but no one answers his question. Keiichi is then, later on, wakes up to Ooishi-san, who wanted to ask some questions about the incident, but Keiichi has a mental breakdown while talking to him. He is then visited by Mion, who checks in on Keiichi and also informs about the death of Rika and Satoko.

Higurashi When They Cry (2020) | Plot Overview

The Story follows the life of Keiichi Maebara, A highschool boy who just moved to a small town called Hinamizawa. Upon reaching there, he soon made some inseparable friends in Rena Ryuugu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude, all of whom seem very nice. Just when the anime seemed like a typical slice of life, romance anime, the anime does a complete 180º. The town of Hinamizawa is prevalent for people being murdered or disappearing. Most people assume it’s the wrath and judgment of the Spirit God of the town. When Keiichi tries to get to the bottom of this mystery by asking his new friends for more information about this mystery, they start avoiding the question and dodging the conversation. This makes Keiichi start wondering if the mystery is more than just what it seems.
