Epic Games Sues Google And Apple Over Removing Their Apple From Store
Epic Games Still
Fortnite maker Epic is facing hard times with two giants in the technology industry on removing their mobile application from the play store. Fortnite parent company Epic is suing Apple and Google for removing their most popular game from reaching the gamers. This action comes after having a dispute over direct-payment disputes. Soon after the announcement came from Apple removing the Fortnite from their apple store, Google has come forward and removed the app form the android store too. This action has created a panic between the famous mobile game manufacturer and technology giants.
The removal of the game on the same day Epic Games launched a new direct payment system inside Fortnite. The company came forward and offered a 20% discount for its users to purchase Fortnite’s in-game V-Bucks currency which is compared to be less than the same V-Bucks via Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Soon after finding this Apple removed the app for the violation of the guidelines. This is not the first time Apple has removed its app from the play store over the violation of rules and regulations. Apple has removed many popular and most used applications from the play store for the violations that might cause threats in the digital platform.
Many companies have invested millions of dollars in fighting against the threats that might cause loss of the huge amount of data. Apple being a responsible company has been fighting against the digital violation. Apple said in a statement they will have a smooth relationship with Epic games on working on the violations of rules and bringing back to the app store making it available for the millions of users out there. Epic Games has faced a similar situation during the previous initial launch of the game which got warned by Google.
The mobile application was considered as the standard iOS app which was allowed to enter Apple’s closed ecosystem. By this agreement apple has earned 30 percent of the amount paid by the user in purchasing battle pass subscription service which is mostly used in various stages of the game and the cosmetic skins, emotes, and other digital goods which ensured to provide games with a great gaming experience overall. Fortnite has earned $2.4 billion in 2018 and $1.8 billion in 2019. This one-time payment allows the users to use the game across leading gaming platforms like iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Epic Games have bypassed the download through Google’s play store and launching directly through their direct download through its own software launcher. This decision was made to stop paying 30 percent for google from which they get from the users purchasing basic amenities required for the users while playing the game. This dispute raised soon after the Epic Games announced discounts of up to 20% permanently for the players who wish to buy V-Bucks directly from Epic. This process doesn’t have access for Apple and Google to charge a 30 percent commission while transferring the payment. This new feature will have 1,000 V-Bucks that will cost you $9.99 if you go through Apple’s or Google’s system, but only $7.99 direct from Epic.
This is not the first time Epic Games has a public fight with its peers while carrying out the operation. Back in 2018 while making their debut entry into the gaming industry Fornite made an announcement to download the game from their official website bypassing Google’s play store. This decision become a talk of the town and many interested gamers started downloading the game from their website. It’s said that more than a million downloads happened from their official page before making it available on Google’s play store.
