Eddie Murphy’s ‘Coming To America’ Sequel Shifts From Paramount To Amazon Studios. Read Now!
Eddie Murphy’s long-awaited sequel to ‘Coming to America‘ has moved from Paramount to Amazon Studios. According to sources, the deal is worth $125 million and the movie will arrive on the streaming platform in December; 18th December to be exact. It looks like ‘Coming to America‘ is making one more connection before its arrival in America.
However, the project is one of many Paramount sold this year to other streaming platforms. The list includes, “Trial of Chicago,” action-comedy “Lovebirds,” which they sold to Netflix, and, “Without Remorse” which went to Amazon Studios.
Coming to America is one of the biggest hits from the 1980s. It features Eddie Murphy in the lead role alongside, Arsenio hall. And, now the duo is coming back together on the big screens to reprise their famous roles. So, let’s go ahead and we’ll update you with everything we know so far:
Production & Marketing
The final details for the film are being done at the moment. Also, the plans for consumer marketing includes two tie-ins. One with the food chain, McDonald’s, and another one with a whiskey brand, Crown royal. The two schemes will be handed over to Amazon as well. Moreover, Murphy who stars and produces the film has to approve and give his blessings.
On the other hand, this sale is very crucial to Amazon Studios. As the Amazon Studion chief, Jennifer Salke is on a hunt to acquire more projects and fare. The streamer has successfully earned the sequels to “Borat”; And another Paramount project “Without Remorse” starring Michael B. Jordan. The studio has also obtained Regina King’s One Night in Miami.”
As for the release date. The date is still the same as it was when first announced. The movie will premiere on 18th December according to its current schedule. Although other movies are facing delays and halts, Coming to America is sticking to its original release date. Now, the movie will obviously premiere on Amazon Prime instead of theatres.
Plot & Cast For The Sequel
In the initial movie, Eddie Murphy played the role of Prince Akeem, a charming prince from Africa. He later comes to Queens, New York to escape from his arranged marriage, and the saga continues. The 80s original stars, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, and John Amos alongside Murphy.
In the sequel, Prince Akeem (Murphy) is now a king of the fictional country, Zamunda. However, he is unaware of his son, who he never knew, is living in America. His son, Lavelle, a street smart in Queens, NYC. To fulfill the former King’s dying wish to see his grandson as the crown prince, Akeem along with Semmi (Hall) plans a trip to New York. This means another adventure is waiting for us to witness. And, we definitely can’t wait anymore.
Murphy, Hall, and Jones are returning with their respective characters. Meanwhile, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, Arsenio Hall, and Wesley Snipes are joining as the supporting cast.
